McMenamins Zeus Cafe
Located inside the Crystal Hotel
S.W. 12th Ave near Burnside

At Dishcrawl events we visited 4 restaurants in one night, this was stop ONE of our evening! Read my original post about Dishcrawl {HERE} which gives some more info about who Dishcrawl is and what they are about. I was greeted by Katie who works and organizes Portland Dishcrawl Events. I created myself a name tag and took a seat amongst the rest of the group who were all strangers that found Dishcrawl online just like me.

Dishcrawl stop #1

About The Crystal Hotel:
The Crystal Hotel is one of many growing McMinamins hotels located just across the street from the Crystal Ballroom in Downtown Portland. The Crystal Hotel has 51 artistic European style guestrooms, each inspired by a song or performance from the Crystal Ballroom’s past 100 years of performers. Colorfully painted rooms, black velvet drapery and animal print upholstery encourage a rock & roll vibe. Not all guest rooms have private bathrooms, just a old fashioned sink, fluffy robes, and cozy bed. On each floor there are shared bathrooms (one) on each floor, and in the corner suite guestrooms the space is much larger and include their own private bathrooms with showers.

Hotel Floors:
*On the first floor of The Crystal hotel sites the Zeus Café! Zeus Cafe offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, prepared using the freshest Northwest ingredients possible.
*Floors 2,3,and 4 are all guest rooms.
*Downstairs in the lower level in The Crystal hotel is “Al’s Den” a music venue where live music every night of the week for FREE! Tucked away inside Al’s Den is a bar that winds to the back somewhat cellar looking where food and drink is served casual.
*Located below street level at the Crystal Hotel is their saltwater Soaking Pool with a comfortable temperature of 100 degrees avaliable for overnight guests ONLY. They chose to use salt instead of chrorine because it is a more natural approcah to keep the water clean. Salt is also softer on the skin.

About Zeus Cafe:
Not typical pub food here with wood fired mussels, grilled scallops, flat iron steak, and Grilled Portobello Mushroom Burger barley touches the variety of their menu. The manager presented us with a sampling of their appetizer menu to start off our night (which was included in our Dishcrawl ticket price). He explained a little about the history of the hotel and the McMenamin brothers themselves. They were very excited to have us as our first stop!
Zeus Cafe also created a “Dishcrwal Cocktail” that was $5 which most of us ordered.
The cocktail was Gin, bitters, and grapefruit. I normally would not pick this out of a menu, but Mcmenamin always uses fresh juices for their cocktails which toatlly made the drink. It was tangy with the grapefruit and well balanced with the bitters.

Here is what was presented to us “family style”:
Chickpea Fries with harissa aioli
Beer & Bacon Mussels made with beer, housemade bacon, thyme
Mini Pulled Pork Sandwich Sliders with cabbage slaw & bbq sauce on a brioche bun

My Side Notes:
There is FREE Wi-Fi Available on site
The saltwater soaking pool is available to those staying in the hotel ONLY
No on-site parking, Smartpark is the best closest option
They offer a GREAT happy hour daily

4fork I gave Zeus Cafe 4 forks for their tribute to Northwest inspired pub food, I like that they used their own beer in the dishes, and they do offer happy hour
