Casa Del Matador commonly known as “The Matador” is a popular restaurant and I can see why. Our experience was delightful with cheap $5 happy hour food specials that were HUGE enough to carry us through lunch the next day. They have over 120 tequilas on the menu and offer “flights” which are paired combination shots of tequila as well as a descriptive drink menu with enough variety to please everyone even if you aren’t a tequila drinker.

We arrived for their late night happy hour which is 10pm-close. Inside the atmosphere was dark but warm and welcoming with the many mini candles scattered all throughout the restaurant. It’s like the southwest meets Mexico somehow with rustic wood and longhorn skulls on the wall. This is a great date night spot or a Saturday night out. The mood and lighting was romantic and soft, over on the bar side of the open restaurant there is an indoor fire pit which was visible from our table.
Plenty of outdoor seating for warm days, I cant wait to go back and kick back with a margarita and soak up the breeze.

Our server was relaxed and helpful with making drink choices. They have over 120 tequilas on the menu which was a little intimidating somewhat like choosing the “right year” of wine. I was super close to ordering the Cucumber Jalapeno margarita rimmed with chili powder, but thought I would leave that for next time with the girls. I ordered the top shelf margarita which was not too sweet so you could actually taste the alcohol. While a few of their tequilas on the menu begin at $5.50, the classier ones go for $50, $60, $85 and a pricey $100 per shot!
Our food was excellent, especially for happy hour selection and HUGE for only $5. It had great flavor and was the presentation was spot on.
I was a little sad that they did not start us off with the free chips & salsa like most Mexican restaurants, but we had plenty with our HH food so it was ok.

Casa Del Matador has a few other locations including one on NW 23rd in downtown Portland, the others are in Washington and Idaho.

What we ordered:
Top Shelf Margarita (Sauza Hornitos, lime juice and Patron Citronge) $8 served on the rocks
Jose shot served on the rocks w/lime
Texas Size Nachos $5
Spicy Fried Calamari served with garlic aioli $5
Chicken Quesadilla $5
