HAPPY NEW YEAR to 2013!

For New Years Eve this year I had the privilege to attend the 22nd Annual Champagne Ball at The Portland Hilton located in the heart of downtown Portland!
I had general admission tickets which got myself and my date into all the main areas of the event (besides the VIP lounge which was located on the top floor of the hotel).
The Champagne Ball was located in the lower ballroom level of the Hilton hotel which took two escalator rides down to make our grand entrance to the fun.

ABOUT THE EVENT:
The Champagne Ball was split into four separate rooms in the lower ballroom level of the Portland Hilton. The main largest room was “The grand ballroom” which was filled with reserved seated tables for those with larger parties as well as the main stage with live music performed by a local band known as The Radical Revoloution. There was quite a mix of age groups represented, but I would say the majority of people who attended were 25+. We enjoyed taking pictures at the complementary photobooth. There was a table off to the side with funny props to add character to the photo booth shots. Each couple/group stood in front of the self administered photo session which automatically took your picture every 7 seconded so you had to be quick with changing props. After taking 5 poses a printed picture pops out and is FREE for you to take home. We did this a couple of times and the line wasn’t ever really long. I was surprised by the photo quality, I was thinking the photo was going to be a blurry computer image but the quality of the images came out nice! They did a nice job with decor for the event. I felt like I was stepping into classy Vegas for the night.

FOOD AND DRINK:
All alcoholic beverages were NOT included in the ticket price, they all had an additional cost where you buy prepaid tickets adjacent to the bars. Prior to getting a drink at the bar you buy a specific ticket for the drink option you want, then you go to the bar and order. This kept the bars steady and never a long or crowed wait to get a cocktail. At the beginning of the night a light appetizer buffet was served, there was plenty of food to go around with quite the impressive spread of hot and cold food. Later in the night hot teas and coffee was severed along with mini bite sized cakes and chocolate covered strawberries. The food alone was worth the ticket price. Then as the night went along at midnight they fed us again with a hot pizza buffet! This wasn’t the best pizza I’ve had, but it was good carb-age after a night of drinks. So in total they fed us three times! Throughout the night we just walked around from room to room listening to the live music then back to the other rooms for more of a dance vibe. When I go out I like the balance of being able to be in the loud mix of the action but then have enough space to step away to cool off and actually be able to hold a conversation. This space was perfect for that.

ENTERTAINMENT:
In the main ballroom a live local band performed top 80′s hit known as “The Radical Revolution”. Between performances by the band, the dj played popular club music which kept the dance floor packed and interactive. The second largest room was an additional dance floor with a dj playing popular 80′s music which also had a packed dance floor. Scattered between both rooms were mini tables and multiple bars that served an array of alcoholic beverages. They handed out glow sticks closer to midnight and had go-go dancers on stage who were interactive with the crowd.

SIDES NOTES:
The Hilton had discounted hotel room rates if you were attending the party which is what we did. I’m so glad we did this. We checked into the hotel room around 4pm and had happy hour at a nearby bar within walking distance. The Champagne Ball started at 8pm so this gave us plenty of time to relax and prefunk prior to the party with no worries of where to park. When it was time to head over it was just a quick two minute walk (we stayed across the street at the Hilton Executive Tower). It was nice to not have to worry about dragging around a coat or even a purse, I just game the boyfriend my ID and cash and we were set hands free. But for future reference they did have a coat check in the lobby. Also once you check-into the event they give you a color coded bracelet so you can leave and come back as much as you like throughout the night.
