Cascade Brewing Barrel House is located on SE 9th & Belmont. It’s hard to miss this place with their 15+ picnic bench seating outside as you drive by. Cascade Brewing has a great laid back vibe with their indoor/outdoor atmosphere. Cascade Brewing can be crowded on a sunny Portland evening which we have found to be hit-or-miss with finding a table outside. The seating is first come first serve and seat yourself service. Indoors has an industrial style feel with cement floors surrounded by glass and big garage bay doors that opens to the outside patio. Cascade Brewing Barrel house is my new favorite place to grab a local beer in Portland! They have quite the variety of beers including unique fruit beers like Blueberry and Raspberry. They are also known for their variety of “sour beers” like the Honey Ginger Lime and Apricot. They don’t offer any “flight” or “sampler” options, you can either order a full size pour of beer or just a taster for $2-3 where we spent a few nights here just tasting our way through the menu. Every week Cascade Brewing taps one NEW barrel at 6pm on Tuesday’s. There are 18 taps, featuring all of Cascade’s beers, plus 4 special ” Blender” taps.
Their menu features small plates, nuts, salads and sandwiches featuring meats smoked onsite daily, all foods that complement sour beers. Surprising going over their food menu I noticed absolutely nothing is fried. I asked our server, and sure enough there is no fryer in the kitchen which you commonly see in most beer houses serving fries, fries, and more fries. So this is a nice change to eat something hearty and not feeling overly bloated on your way out.
