Where do I begin? I would’ve never known WOM existed unless Amy of Eating My Way Thru Portland hadn’t referenced this gem several times. Word of Mouth Neighborhood Bistro is located in Salem, Oregon. I live in Vancouver, Wa. so a drive to Salem, Or. is pretty far for me. But this past weekend my family was visiting the Oregon Coast so I knew this was the perfect opportunity to stop in and see if the rumors are true. I emailed Amy to see what she suggested andnher response was that the eggs benedict are to die for. The creme brulee french toast is not to be missed. The corned beef hash and biscuits and gravy are equally as good. Word of Mouth Neighborhood Bistro is a cute little house renovated into a quaint little restaurant. Word of Mouth has a fantastic story you can read about it HERE. Before you head off to WOM you should know that unless you get there right when they open you’ll most likely be waiting….a long time. Like over an hour. It’s definitely worth the wait but just something you should know before going. We were quoted 1 hour & 15 mins and were seated after an hour. We already knew what we wanted and ordered right away. Our food arrived very fast for how busy it was.
The food here is to die for! I literally cried on the way home because I was so sad they were not closer! Just kidding I didn’t cry but I’m definitely really sad. I’ve never been anywhere that serves three poached eggs with your benedict. The hollandaise sauce was amazing and deliciously creamy. I almost licked the plate when we were done.
The biscuit and gravy was equally as delicious and I wish I had more.
The corned beef hash was so yummy and melted in my mouth. It was my husbands favorite thing we ordered. And probably the most delicious corned beef I’ve ever had. My favorite item of the day was the creme brulee french toast! O-M-G! This stuff is amazing! The crispy, crunch, raw sugar crust and the gooey vanilla inside is genius! I’m going to do everything in my will power to recreate this at home. But I’m sure I’ll be driving back to Salem really really soon for this yummy treat. Please excuse the terrible cell phone photos. We were sat in a lovely privateish area up stairs and the lighting was not so good.
I gave WOM 4 forks because they’re outstanding. The food is fresh, fresh, fresh and made from scratch daily. You can taste the love in every bite. It’s definitely my top restaurant I will recommend for breakfast if people are willing to make the drive.
may be a long wait
